Preheat oven to 400°. Melt 2 TBS butter in 2 qt baking dish.
Toss 8 cups (about 3 lbs) shredded baking potatoes with 1 TBS lemon juice, salt, pepper and minced garlic.
Combine 1 cup grated Gruyere and 1/2 cup grated Parmesan. In the baking dish, spread one half of the grated potatoes, sprinkle with one half of cheese, layer again with potatoes and top with cheese. Pour over 1 cup whipping cream. Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 15-20 additional minutes, or until golden brown. Makes 8 servings.
